How do I find foreign language films and television programs on DVD, Blu-ray or VHS video?

Answer

Finding foreign language DVD/Blu-ray/VHS titles in a specified language (example - Spanish):

Using Advanced search, click the “Library catalog” button; select Material Type “Video/film;” select Search filter options GENRE and “contains exact phrase” and type in spanish language films and television (as an alternative to selecting exact phrase, the "contains" filter could be used with the search phrase placed within quotation marks). To see a list of all non-English film and television programs, simply select material type Video/film, the genre filter, and type in search phrase language films and television.

Since this search draws both film and television selections, it is a lengthy list; however, you can “Sort” the display by Title, Author, Newest, or Oldest.

Note that your chosen film title may be checked out; click the arrow by the call number of your selection to see if it's available (loanable), or to request that item if it's checked out.

A further note about searches for video content using the "Language" selection (underneath "Material Type" - not pictured above), rather than the GENRE search: though this approach yields a lengthy list, selections found that way may not be primarily in the chosen language, due to the system picking up subtitle languages. Language-specific GENRE searches yield the most precise results.
